  • Common means – shared with the aid of all of the same organization.
  • A Common Noun is a call given in commonplace to all people, animal, location or aspect of the identical magnificence or type.

Second Definition of Common Noun

  • The name which is given equally to a group or different persons or things of a kind is called common noun.
  • The name which is given equally to a group or to different persons or objects of a type is called a common noun.

Definition of Common Noun (Third Definition of Common Noun)

  • Common nouns are the words which name the place, people, things etc but they are not the actual name of the place, people or things.
  • Common nouns are words that name places, people, things, etc., but are not the actual names of places, people or things.

Examples of Common Noun: boy, female, cat, dog, bird, snake, guy, desk, pen, e-book, river, mountain, city, united states of America, etc.

Note: Sita, Geeta and Mala have special meaning for girls, so it is a proper noun. But by saying Girl, it does not mean any particular girl, but any girl gets the sense of it. So girl is a common noun.

Second Definition of Collective noun

  • A noun that gives meaning to the whole group is called a collective noun.
  • Name has been assigned to some special groups is called a collective noun.

Third Definition of Collective noun

  • A noun that refers to a person or a group of other creatures or a collection of things is called a collective noun.
  • The Noun which denotes a group of person or other creature or collection of things is called Collective Noun.

Examples of Collective Noun: magnificence (class), the crowd, navy (army), the team, circle of relatives (family), committee (committee), mob (crowd), bunch (bunch), lock (crude), etc.

Saying ‘Military’ gives a sense of a group of soldiers. Saying ‘Crowd’ gives a sense of a group of people. Similarly, the above other words give the sense of some or the other group. Hence they are Collective Nouns(collective noun).

Material Noun

  • The Noun by which a material substance is sensed, which is measured or weighed, but is not counted, from which various objects are made, it is called Material Noun.
  • The Noun from which there is a sense of a matter, which is measured or weighed, but not counted, from which various objects are made, is called Material Noun.

Second Definition of Material Noun

  • A material noun is the name of a physical substance.
  • A Material Noun is the name of a material object.

  • Such a noun from which material is understood is called material noun.
  • The Noun which refers to the materials is called material noun.

  • Such a noun which shows quality, condition and activity is called Abstract Noun.
  • The Noun which denotes the quality, condition and action are called abstract Noun.

Definition of Abstract Noun (Third Definition of Abstract Noun)

  • Abstract Nouns are words that describe the quality, action or condition of a person or thing.
  • A noun denoting an idea, quality, or state rather than a concrete object is called an abstract noun.

  • Proper nouns are words which indicate a place, living being or thing.
