CA Day 2021: History & Significance of Chartered Accountants’ Day
Chartered Accountants (CA) Day is celebrated every year on 1st July. These days are organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). It is celebrated to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of ICAI, India’s most professional and oldest finance and accounting body.
ICAI is the only licensing and regulatory body for the accounting profession and financial auditing in India. Every accounting and finance organization, including the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), has to follow the recommendations of the accounting standards framed by them.
ICAI is the second largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world with around 2.5 lakh members.
Chartered Accountants (CA) Day: History
Before ICAI came into existence, the British Government in India used to maintain accounts using the Companies Act. The British government then introduced an accounting diploma course for auditors. Those who completed this course became eligible to work as auditors across India.
However, the profession of accountancy in India remained unregulated until an expert committee in 1948 suggested the formation of an autonomous body to regulate it. After this the Chartered Accountants Act was passed in 1949.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) was established on 1 July 1949.

CAs play a very important role in the development of our country. In addition, ICAI is the most professional institution that regulates accounting standards in India.

National Doctor’s Day
Every year 01 July is celebrated as ‘National Doctor’s Day’ by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary and death anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, former Chief Minister of West Bengal. The day is dedicated to all the doctors and health workers who are risking their lives to serve the people even in challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has once again provided an opportunity to remember the contributions and sacrifices made by doctors and healthcare workers across the world. This day was first observed in 1991 by former Bengal Chief Minister Dr. B.C. In the service of humanity by. It was celebrated to recognize Roy’s contribution. Dr. Roy was a renowned physician who made very important contributions in the medical field. He was born on July 1, 1882 and died on the same date in 1962. He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961. He was instrumental in the establishment of medical institutions like Jadavpur TB Hospital, Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital. Victoria Institution (college) for women and children, Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital and Chittaranjan Seva Sadan. He was also a freedom fighter who later became the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
12-year-old Indian-origin Abhimanyu Mishra has recently become the youngest Grandmaster of Chess. Abhimanyu Mishra of ‘New Jersey’ of America has broken the record of 12 years, 7 months set by Grandmaster Sergei Karjakin in the year 2002. Abhimanyu Mishra has made this record at the age of 12 years, 4 months. Earlier on 12 August 2002, Sergei Karjakin achieved the title of Grandmaster at the age of 12 years and 7 months. Born on 5 February 2009, Abhimanyu Mishra defeated 15-year-old Indian Grandmaster Leon Luke Mendonka to achieve this highest title in chess. It is worth noting that earlier Abhimanyu Mishra had broken India’s R Pragyananand’s record to become the youngest international master. Abhimanyu Mishra won this title in the year 2019 at the age of 10 years, 9 months and 20 days. Apart from this, Abhimanyu Mishra also became America’s youngest National Master at the age of just nine.
Glacial Lake Atlas
Recently, the Ministry of Jal Shakti has released a ‘Glacial Lake Atlas’ for the basin of river Ganga. This ‘Glacial Lake Atlas’ is based on the glacial lakes in the Ganges river basin covering a catchment area of 2,47,109 square kilometers from their origin to the Himalayan foothills. The study of the Ganges river basin covers the area on the Indian side as well as across the border. This atlas provides a comprehensive and systematic glacial lake database for the Ganges River basin with a watershed area of more than 0.25 ha. The atlas can also be used as reference data for change analysis in the context of climate change impact analysis. In addition, it will also be useful for comparing history and any future time period. This atlas also provides an authentic database for regular or periodic monitoring of changes in territorial extent (expansion/contraction) and formation of new lakes. The atlas can also be used to study the climate effect on glaciers. This atlas will also prove to be very important for detecting the potential risk of ‘Glacial Lake Outburst Flood’ (GLOF). The central and state disaster management authorities can use the atlas for disaster mitigation planning and related programmes.
Senior bureaucrat Amitabh Kant’s tenure as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of central think tank ‘NITI Aayog’ has been extended by one year. A Kerala cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Amitabh Kant has been instrumental in several policy initiatives of the government, including ‘Make in India’, ‘Start-up India’ and ‘Incredible India’ etc. Doing Business Initiative. Amitabh Kant has also been associated with civil society organizations on a large scale as the chairman of a task force set up for COVID management. Earlier in June 2019, Amitabh Kant was given a two-year extension in the same post. NITI Aayog was established on 1 January 2015 by the Government of India as a ‘Policy Think Tank’. NITI Aayog is playing an important role in policy formulation by creating the initial framework for various initiatives of the government including disinvestment and privatization of banks. NITI Aayog is headed by the Prime Minister.
